Dr. Joanne Copps grew up in Los Angeles. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Irvine and then went on to receive her Doctor of Dental Surgery from Creighton University School of Dentistry. To stay on top of the latest techniques and technologies in dentistry, Dr. Copps maintains memberships with the following organizations:

- San Diego County Dental Society
Dr. Copps feels it is her responsibility to make sure you always feel comfortable during your visits. Digital X-rays
Digital X-rays are a fast and comfortable tool Dr. Copps uses to assess your dental needs. They’re safe enough to be used during pregnancy, and some studies show they emit up to 90% less radiation than conventional X-rays. Needing no chemical processing, digital X-rays are a smart choice for you and the environment!
We use dental X-rays at Governor Dental because many of the problems that affect teeth and the surrounding tissues cannot be seen by the unaided eye. An X-ray is needed to reveal:
- Abscesses or cysts
- Deep cavities
- Deep gum disease
- Developmental abnormalities
- Infections in the jaw bones
- Small areas of decay between teeth or below existing restorations
- Some types of tumors
Intraoral Camera
Like digital X-rays, digital photographs taken with our intraoral camera are a useful diagnostic and patient education tool. This camera shows you what Dr. Copps sees when she is examining your mouth. These images allow her to talk you through your diagnosis and treatment options while showing you images of your mouth, teeth, gums, and jaw on a computer screen. These digital photographs also allow us to visualize your treatment plan and diagnose issues we might not have been able to see without the up-close view.
Laser Dental Treatments
Lasers are extremely precise and can help shorten the duration of almost any general dental procedure. Because our soft tissue laser can eliminate the need for scalpels and sutures, you can experience a much shorter healing process. Dr. Copps uses our laser in a variety of applications, from deep cleanings to cosmetic gum reshaping.
